GEORGES ISLAND PICNIC IN THE PAST SAT. JULY 20 & SUN. JULY 21
Set sail for Georges Island for a weekend full of family fun! Picnic in the Past, presented by Select Nova Scotia, is your chance to experience Georges Island, a unique National Historic Site. Bring the whole family to enjoy local food, take a guided tour of the tunnels, and learn about Halifax in 1812. Enjoy an afternoon escape from the city, right in the middle of the Halifax Harbour!
Select Nova Scotia is the province's successful Buy Local marketing campaign, with over 400 businesses across the province belonging to the Select Nova Scotia network. The campaign helps Nova Scotians to find, choose, and support local. Picnic in the Past is the first in a number of community picnics happening throughout the summer in Nova Scotia as part of the IncrEDIBLE picnic program.
Parks Canada will provide activities for the whole family to enjoy. On Georges Island you can experience guided tunnel tours, a scavenger hunt, Naval gun and musket firing demonstrations, games from the time period, and an 1812 living history camp, with re-enactors who will be living on the island for the weekend! There are plenty of interactive games and displays for all ages! Visitors will receive a map of Georges Island upon arrival, displaying all activities and amenities.
